NEW  WORLD  SYMPHONY
The New World Symphony School in South Beach, Miami, celebrated its 25th Anniversary with a tribute to co-founder and legendary composer Leonard Bernstein, hosting a celebratory gala centering around the theme of his famous musical, West Side Story. VideoBrooklyn was invited to design a creative concept around the West Side Story theme, which would involve projection mapping onto the signature Frank Ghery architecture throughout the space. Working closely with NWS, we developed a 3D Projection Mapped celebratory retelling of the classic 1961 film. Using the frame-by-frame technique of rotoscoping, we were able to isolate characters in the film from their original backgrounds, then reintroduce them into newly designed, more abstract, digital environments, designed to fit the various spaces throughout the New World Center. Tony, Maria, the Sharks, Jets, Officer Crumke and others illuminated the vast surfaces both inside and outside of the New World Center, retelling West Side Story in a brand new context and style. |
